TwinSAFE: integrated safety

To this day, machine movements create a range of hazards for machine operators and maintenance personnel. A first priority is that anyone coming into contact with the machine has to be protected from injuries at all times and during all operating stages, from commissioning to decommissioning. Integrated control and safety technology is a prerequisite for safe and economic automation. With the integration of safety and Drive Technology in mind, Beckhoff developed the TwinSAFE system to properly address safety needs. TwinSAFE enables integrated automation, ranging from digital inputs and logic systems to drives or digital outputs. Simple handling, diagnostic and support functions help the user implement the required application quickly and safely.

 

Safety over EtherCAT

The protocol developed according to IEC 61508 can be transferred via EtherCAT or even across gateways. In addition to EtherCAT, fieldbus systems such as PROFIBUS, CANopen, SERCOS or Ethernet can be used as the transport layer. In conjunction with the TwinSAFE product family, safety technology can be implemented without sophisticated safety control.
