TwinCAT 3 is more open, flexible, easily extendable and, using multi-core CPUs, faster than current PC-based controllers. In accordance with the all-in-one automation concept, TwinCAT 3 includes all major programming languages from the automation and IT world.
In addition to the possibilities of controller programming according to the 3rd edition of IEC 61131-3, the new TwinCAT 3 architecture allows the use of C and C++ as the programming language. The TwinCAT 3 runtime has been modularised in order to make it more open and flexible. It now makes an environment available in which the TwinCAT 3 modules can run. This way, it is of little importance whether these modules are PLC, NC or CNC modules or modules generated from C code (e.g. Matlab®/Simulink®).
